SYNOPSIS:
School of Rock – The Musical is based on the hit movie. The tuner follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight–A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school’s headmistress finding out? Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock – The Musical, with its sensational live kids’ rock band, is a loving testimony to the transforming power of music.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
ADULT ROLES
DEWEY FINN (Age Range: 30-45) - An overly ambitious, rock-obsessed, underachiever. A highly energetic and comedic role with a high rock tenor voice. Improvisational acting skills are desirable. Competent guitar playing is preferable, but not a must.

ROSALIE MULLINS (Age Range: 30-45) - An uptight and highly strung headmistress of an elite school. Driven by success and prestige. However, inside lives a caged, rock and roll lover. Strong belt required.

NED SCHNEEBLY (Age Range: 30-45) - An old friend of Dewey’s and a substitute teacher. Has buried his inner-rock god to live a more “adult lifestyle” with his girlfriend, Patty, whom he is very submissive with.

PATTY DI MARCO (Age Range: 30-45) - Ned’s domineering girlfriend, who lives with Ned and Dewey. She calls the shots in their relationship and isn’t too happy about Dewey’s presence in their flat – or his influence on Ned.

ADULT ENSEMBLE - A group of 6-8 adults to play teachers, parents, band members, etc.

YOUTH ROLES:
PLEASE NOTE: All youth actors must be able to convincingly portray a Middle School student.

ZACK MOONEYHAM - Zack is the band’s lead guitarist and a talented songwriter. He desperately wants to impress his father, who’s usually too busy with work to take an interest in his family.

KATIE - Quiet, serious girl who keeps mostly to herself. She plays the cello at school but is quick to pick up the bass at Dewey's encouragement. She is stone-faced when she plays and takes her instrument and the band very seriously.

LAWRENCE - Awkward and lacking in confidence, Lawrence is hesitant to attempt something “cool”, like joining a band, but he soon turns out to be a fantastic keyboardist.

FREDDIE HAMILTON - Freddie loves a bit of rowdiness and noise, making him a great drummer, despite his father not outwardly supporting him.

SUMMER HATHAWAY - Confident and outspoken, Summer is the ideal manager for the band. Ambitious and very clever, she hopes that winning Battle of the Bands will look good on her college application.

TOMIKA - Incredibly withdrawn new student, Tomika, conquers her shyness to reveal her phenomenal singing ability, and becomes a lead vocalist alongside Dewey in the band

MARCY & SHONELLE - Quiet girls with angelic voices, Marcy and Shonelle are the band’s backup singers and dancers.

MASON - Mason is a total whiz with technology and creates special effects and fantastic lighting designs for the band’s performances using his laptop.

BILLY - Flamboyant and artistic, Billy has a passionate interest in fashion. He designs the band’s costumes.

JAMES - James is tough and reliable, making him a good security guard for the band. Mostly, he keeps an eye out for anyone coming while the band is secretly rehearsing!

SOPHIE & MADISON Sophie and Madison are technically the band’s roadies but also serve as backup dancers during performances.
